An Auction, By George
Mount Vernon, the home of our first president, wants rooms at George Washington Inn, a new B&B which is located near Port Angeles, for their upcoming fundraiser, “An Auction, By George”. The old adage, “Build it, people will come” could be applied to the success of our first season as a bed and breakfast. It has truly been discovered. Perhaps it will be an inspiration to others who want to see a vision of what Port Angeles can become. Thinking beyond the impossible brings about the reality of ‘dreams come true’. Think big, take one step at a time and big things really do happen.
The Director of Gift Planning at Mount Vernon has asked George Washington Inn to contribute rooms towards their “An Auction, by George” event scheduled for April 25, 2009. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to support Mount Vernon’s preservation and educational programs. Even though they host more than one million visitors a year, these educational programs touch people well beyond Mount Vernon’s walls and reach out to schools and teachers nationwide.
According to this invitation from Mount Vernon, there is only one event in Washington, DC that combines a picture-perfect setting on the banks of the Potomac River with a celebration of American history – Mount Vernon’s “An Auction, by George”. In fact, this event is so special that it occurs only once every three years. This gala is not simply “another black-tie affair”. Guests from around the country will gather on the historic East Lawn of Mount Vernon. An elaborate tent just steps from Washington’s majestic Mansion will be the site of a special dinner, a lively auction, and a viewing of a spectacular display of fireworks. Exciting getaways and trips, rare art and antiques, Washington memorabilia, and much more will all be up for grabs during this spirited evening.
George Washington Inn is honored to have a part in preserving the home of George Washington and his legacy through educational programs in our nation’s schools. Plans to donate several rooms toward this auction event are being made.
